Family-Friendly Employee Benefits

Flexibility is a critical requirement for many professionals.

You may be a Mom or a Dad who needs to be available for your kids’ soccer practices and tournaments, school concerts, parent-teacher meetings and family vacations. Your parents may be aging and require more attention. Or, you may be working on an advanced degree, taking professional development courses or volunteering your time. At McLarty & Co we will work with you to design an employment agreement that supports your lifestyle.

You can have it all at McLarty & Co.

  • Career growth and time for the kids
  • Interesting clients and a second job as the family chauffeur
  • Reasonable targets and deadlines that allow you to exercise more
  • Minimal overtime so you can volunteer your skills to charity
  • Smiles at the office and smiles at home

Public accounting is a seasonal business. Many of our policies encourage our employees to work hard during the busy season and to work less during the slower months. Here are some examples of the McLarty & Co formula for a balanced employee benefit plan.

Summer Fridays Off and Winter Holiday Days

Accumulated overtime can be used to take Fridays off in the summer and extra time off over the winter holidays. If an employee accumulates overtime it can be used on a one-hour-for-one-hour basis to take up to nine Fridays off in the summer and up to five days off during the weeks of Christmas and New Year. Overtime accumulates each week that an employee works more than the standard number of hours

Changing Work Week

Our standard workday varies by month. For five months of the year the standard workday is only 7 hours long. For four months it is 7.5 hours long. For three months it is 8.5 hours.

Flexible Working Hours

Employees may adjust their working schedule to their family and/or personal needs. Some of our employees start as early 7:30 am. Some start as late as 9 am. Some leave at 3:30 pm.

No Breakfast Meetings

Breakfast meetings are not family-friendly.

Seasonal and Part-time work

Some of our staff work four days a week. Some of our employees take the summer off. Some take time off in the fall.

Free Lunches

Everyone looks forward to getting together over the Thai, Italian or Tex Mex group lunches we have once each week in April. We stock the freezer with gourmet meals from The Red Apron for staff who choose to work evenings during March and April. Spontaneous group lunches are ordered in for anyone working on week-ends.

Vacation

Paid vacation is 3 weeks per year.

Employee Insurance

McLarty & Co offers group disability and life insurance programs.

Health Expenses

$600 of health-related expenses can be reimbursed each year.

Professional Development Budget

Every employee has a personal professional development budget of $1,500. (This budget is not used for any internally-provided seminars or training.) Each employee can spend up to five days each year attending external seminars or studying for exams. Personal budgets for some areas of specialty such as taxation are often higher than the corporate standard.

Internal Training

Our internal training is conducted throughout the fall and early winter. It covers a variety of topics that range from a review of our corporate vision and culture to changes in tax legislation. Our lifelong skills training, in areas such as client account management and communication, is often provided by McLoughlin Media in their state-of-the-art media facilities.

Annual HR Meetings

The directors meet with every staff member once a year to discuss performance, a professional development plan, chargeable hours targets and compensation.
